How do You Decorate an Antique Kitchen?

If you are tired of your kitchen and want a different kind of look than you may want to consider giving your kitchen an antique look. This can be a very easy and budget-friendly project. The following are a few tips ideas and suggestions on how to get started making your antique kitchen decor.

The first thing you should do is start with your kitchen cabinets. In the kitchen, your focal point is usually your kitchen cabinets. They are the first thing that catches people’s attention when they enter your kitchen. There are several different ways that you can give you a kitchen an antique look.

You can try the staining method. In order to get started with the staining method, you will need the following materials all of which can be found at your local Home Depot, Loews store. If you don’t have one of these stores in your area you can always purchase the items online.

Things You’ll Need:

  1. Deep dark stain
  2. Paint Brush (at least 2)
  3. Small sponges
  4. Drop Cloth or Plastic garbage bags

Once you have all of your materials you can remove your cabinet doors and lay your doors on top of your drop cloth or plastic bags. Then you can apply the stain using your paintbrush on one small section at a time, then use the dry sponge to rub it in. You can repeat this process until you get your desired antique look.

Another method that you could try to give your cabinets an antique look is by using sandpaper. You can remove your cabinets and lay them on a work surface and gently sand various sections of the cabinets. This particular method works well if your cabinets are already painted. The idea is to make the edges of your cabinets looks worn down.

If you would prefer something a little bit simpler you can purchase some antique kitchen knobs for your cabinets or add some antique molding that will really give it an antique feel. All of these methods are very easy to do and the supplies will not cost you much as all.

Now it’s time to focus on the rest of the kitchen. Some will recommend that you change the lighting to flicker or look dull but if you still plan on using your kitchen you may want to leave your lighting just the way it is. The rest of your kitchen antiquing can be done by simply adding a few antique accents to your kitchen. For example, you could visit Amazon and purchase an Old World Wooden Wine Box for approximately $45. This can be placed on your counters to help give the room the overall antique look.

Another special accent can be found at Amazon too. There you will find a Set of 3 Rustic Vases. The cost of the Vase Set is about approximately $33. So if you are willing to invest the money then you can purchase these items. If however you want the look but don’t want to pay the price you can purchase copies of these types of vases. You can find these items at your local home decorating store. They usually will have very antique looking vases for a reasonable price.

You could also try visiting some local antique shops in your area to find some additional antique kitchen items that you can hang or place in your kitchen. To really master the antique kitchen look you want to really make sure your color schemes follow a rustic wooden look. Even if you just want to paint the walls a dark rustic color and add a few accents to the kitchen you can achieve your look. Just remember to be creative and use your imagination. Don’t be afraid to shop around for items that will fit in with your overall antique theme.
