Below you will find some homemade soap recipes that are quite unusual, yet very easy to make. You can make these soaps for your own bathroom, or you can make them give away as gifts.
The nice thing about making your own decorative soaps is that you can make whatever soap you need to suit the occasion. You can make heart shaped soaps for Valentine’s Day or egg shaped soaps for Easter. You can make snowball soaps for Christmas and spider soaps for Halloween!
One of the best way to give your homemade soaps as a gift is to create a soap gift basket. Just pick out a small basket and lay a hand towel in the bottom. Fill the basket with several soaps mixed in with some rolled up face cloths. You might also want to include a loofah sponge or a bath scrubbie. What a great gift you can make!
The soaps below are all made with the easy melt and pour method. This means you just melt the base, add some ingredients, then pour into molds. To start, you can use a base of soap flakes. You can buy soap flakes in the laundry section of most stores. If you prefer a more luxurious soap, you can use special melt and pour bases that you can find in craft stores. But those bases are more expensive. So, it’s a good idea to experiment with soap flakes first.
You can melt your soap base in the microwave. Just put the flakes in a microwave safe glass bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Then heat on high for 30 seconds. Check the soap to see if it’s melted. If not, heat again for another 30 seconds. Once it starts to melt, you can just stir it to melt any leftover chunks.
For molds, you can use anything from muffin tins to ice cube trays. You can also buy molds in any craft store. After pouring your soap into the mold, let it dry for about 3 days. Then just pop out the soaps and your done!
